My 4th KCS catch of 2022. I went over to Oak Grove to catch this eastbound I saw pass by behind my house. This crossing was one I found on google maps yesterday while I was in the middle of uploading the vid I've took over on 2nd St in Bates City. Train itself was KCVN like yesterday's catch, but with a pair of gp40-2s trailing behind two sd70aces (a nice break from seeing GE power. lol). I have absolutely no clue when exactly these signals were installed, I want to say sometime around the 2010's as according to historic aerials, this crossing was passive prior to whenever these signals were installed. Unfortunately, this crossing didn't receive streetview up until March of 2019. I'm sure when these signals were installed, they probably had Safetran Fading leds, prior to sometime in 2018 I want to say when KCS replaced the lights to Leotek EV series leds. The bells this crossing probably had previously were gs type 2s until the current gs type 3s were installed. For some odd reason, both bells at this crossing start to ring as soon as the gates begin to lower, and ring until the gates fully rise, though when the gates start to rise, both bells sounded scratchy. To as far as I know of, this is the only crossing on the KCS Mexico Sub to have the bells ring almost the entire time the signals are activated. Ik Broadway St down the line from this crossing has it's safetran mechanical bell ring from startup until the gates begin to rise, but none I've know of have the bells ring the entire time similar to how UP has their bells set to. Not sure if the far signal's bell was ringing or not. I will probably return to this crossing at some point to confirm if that bell is dead or not.
Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.
