*originally recorded on 12-16-21*

Signal on the left: 1 pair of RACO 8 inch lights, 2 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights, a RACO mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of RACO 8 inch lights, 2 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.

After catching NS 204, I continued on over to this crossing in Greer. Here I was able to get my fifth train of the day: NS 237 working the intermodal terminal here in Greer with an ES44DC leading an AC44C6M.

This crossing is another excellent one. It appears that these signals were originally installed by the Southern Railway back in the late-60s/early-70s, though I don't know if the signals originally would've had RACO or early Safetran gate mechs (I personally suspect the former though). The signals remained largely unchanged up until sometime between 2008 and 2009, when NS replaced both gate masts here with the current ones. Since then, however, the signals have still remained pretty much entirely unchanged, thankfully. That being said, sometime between 2012 and 2016, NS replaced the relay case here with a newer one, so I'm kinda surprised to see that the bell here rings when the gates rise still.
Of course, the cantilevers here are easily the best part. Both cantilevers here are still the old RACO cantilevers and they still feature all of their original lights along with the original bell. @Ethan the Railfanner recorded this crossing back in 2020, and I'm glad to see they're still going strong as of late-2021. The RACO bell here doesn't entirely sound the best, but it still works pretty decently, and apparently it's been sounding like this for a while now. The backgrounds on the lights here are all pretty nicely faded as well, which gives the crossing some great character. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised that these signals are still around given how busy the NS Charlotte District is (and was). Hopefully these classic SOU cantilevers remain here for a good while longer.
