Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, 2 pairs of Harmon 8 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
This was the seventh train that I caught on the NS Charlotte District. It was NS 265 with NS 1111 (an SD70ACe), the "barcode" unit, leading an H2 BNSF Dash-9 and an H3 BNSF ES44C4 for power. Certainly nice to see the barcode unit again, especially leading like this, and I'd say this was probably my best catch of the day.
You can also hear the nearby defect detector go off after the train has passed.
This crossing is yet another nice one, this one featuring a pair of late-70s SOU signals at it. It appears that these were entirely original (assuming the Harmon 8 inch side lights here are original) up until sometime after 2019, when NS replaced the Safetran mechanical bell here with a GS Type 3. Not entirely sure why they did that, but I suspect it died. Either way though, I'm quite glad to see that the classic 8 inch lights here still stand, and hopefully they will be around for a good while longer as well.
They/Them for me, please.
