59th Ln, Kansas City, KS

Recorded on 3-27-22. My 4th catch on the Kansas Sub. After catching the 3 trains at 65th St, the block signal kicked on for another eastbound. I decided to hop into my car and head down the line to 59th Ln to catch the train there. Shortly after I arrived, I heard the train blow its horn for Kansas Ave, and 65th St. I turned on my camera and began filming after he passed under the Turner Diagonal Freeway/ K-32 bridge that splits off from Kaw Dr. The train I caught here was an eastbound stacktrain with a solo gevo leader heading for Armourdale Yard. This crossing is the last crossing on the Kansas Sub before the line ends at Armourdale Yard. Just east of Armourdale Yard is the UP KC Metro Sub where the line goes into the West Bottoms (which I've visited way back in 2020). Crossing itself is an interesting one. Both gated signals, lights, and the Harmon cantilever on the far side was installed sometime in the 90s by UP, while the cantilever on the side I filmed on was a leftover from the MoPac days. I assume the original cantilever that was on the far side got either got knocked over at some point, or was just simply replaced by UP. Either way, it's hard to tell. Both bells used to be wch mechanical bells up until sometime in 2011 when the far signal's bell got replaced with a wch e bell. Crossing went unchanged until sometime in 2012 when the closest signal's m bell got replaced with its current wch e bell. The lights also used to be incandescent until UP retrofitted them with Electro-Tech leds. Both gate lights here used to be Electro-Tech until they both got replaced with the current Reco 4 inch led gate lights sometime after google maps went through here in 2021 as the streetview images showed that both gates had Electro-Tech gate lights. I do plan on filming the rest of the crossings on this line at some point.
Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.
