*originally recorded on 2-14-22*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a dead WCH mechanical bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a WCH mechanical bell.

After chasing Q601 to Opelika, I went up to Cusseta to document a signal upgrade there. While I was there, I saw that they had a northbound lined through the hold-out signal there, so I quickly made my way on over to this crossing after I finished documenting it. After a little bit of waiting, this CSX A746 came through with an ES40DC for power.

This crossing is a very nice one, and is another one I'd been wanting to record since I first visited it in 2018. The signals here are a pair of gateless signals CSX put-up in the 1990s, and are still pretty much entirely original. Unfortunately, the WCH mechanical bell died, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it's soon to be replaced with an NEG e-bell (if it hasn't been already). I've finally been able to record a fully original gateless 90s CSX install, however, so I'm glad I was able to do so here. Hopefully the dead WCH mechanical bell here gets fixed rather than replaced.
