McKinley Street, Talladega, AL
*originally recorded on 12-2-19*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
Yesterday, I went back down to the CSX Lineville Subdivision in the Talladega, AL, area to try and record a few crossings I still wanted to get, along with A714 as it still had a YN2 EMD on it as of a few days before I went down here. Unfortunately, the YN2 EMD (and the engine it was paired up with) had been swapped out with a single GP40-3 by the time I got down here, but I still had a fairly successful trip.
This was the first train I caught, a CSX ES44AH leading an ES40DC, running lite. The power was tied down in the small yard in downtown Talladega after passing through here and crossing the diamond.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, being a fully incandescent gateless install. These signals were installed in the 1990s by CSX, and have had very few changes since then. In fact, the only major changes to this crossing is that both of the original WCH mechanical bells here were replaced with the current General Signals e-bells in the early 2000s.
This crossing is actually one of the last two incandescent CSX crossings within Talladega's city limits (the other being Ironaton Road on the opposite side of the city). Old Shocco Road is still also incandescent, but it's located just outside of the city limits, which is why it technically doesn't count.
This crossing is also located a bit northwest of the diamond between the CSX Lineville Sub and the NS R Line.
