AL 25 #1, Calera, AL

*originally recorded on 11-29-17*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

This is a really old crossing here. Both signals are very old L&N Transport Products Corp. signals, though almost all of the equipment on them was upgraded in the 1990s. The gate lights and one of the gate arms have also since been replaced as well. However, CSX fortunately left the original masts and original junction boxes in place, including the unique extenders that Transport Products Corp. used for the junction boxes on their gated signals! There are four other gated crossings along this line with the original Transport Products Corp. signals as well, though all have had the original equipment replaced (including the junction boxes on one of them), and none of them have mechanical bells either, sadly. This crossing is located just south of the Calera Yard and the NS Diamond, but also north of the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.
