After I caught I140, I decided to head back south to College Grove to see if I could get this crossing recorded before it became too dark. Thankfully, as I was driving down, I saw that a northbound was lined through McDaniel Siding, so I decided to stop here and set-up. After a bit of waiting, this CSX E013 came flying north through the crossing with an ES44AH pair pulling on the head-end, and another ES44AH, a Dash-8, and a CM44AC were working as the mid-train DPUs. The Dash-8 was certainly nice to see, even if it would've been much better to see leading.
This crossing is a fairly decent one, as it appears to have be an early-2000s CSX install that's still fairly original. In fact, the only major change here appears to have been the LED upgrade it got, which happened back around 2013/2014 alongside most of the rest of the line. Hopefully these signals continue to remain largely unchanged for many more years to come, but either way, I'm glad I got them recorded.
Thinking about it, there doesn't seem to be too many early-2000s CSX installs along the S&NA North. There's this one, one just north of Lewisburg, two in Decatur (though one appears to have been a knock-down replacement with a re-used GS Type 1), one in Falkville (a gateless install, in fact), two in Cullman (one of which is a knock-down replacement for a cantilever, it appears), and I think that's about it? So that's like seven crossings in total that currently have signals that were installed by CSX in the early 2000s, interesting. Admittedly, I could be forgetting a couple, but still, it ain't very many.
