US&S wigwag in Iowa in 1992

Post by AndyWS »

On what I assume (based on the name of the parallel road) is an ex-Wabash line in the town of Hamilton, south of Des Moines.

Starts at 4:41, there's a NS train going through followed by a pacing shot of a Sperry Rail Services RDC.

Based on the background landmarks in the video, I think the wigwag was here:

I'm guessing this location, because it was in the process of being upgraded, and there are gateless signals in place.

Interesting to see the NS and SOO (now ICE-CP) crossover too at Moravia... Been awhile since NS abandoned that trackage south of Albia. At least part of it was saved by the APNC now Iowa Southern to service industry in Centerville.
Well, :Censored:

Good eye, I think that house is a better match for the one in the background of the video. What threw me off was the videographer in his narration described it as being "near" Hamilton whereas the link you posted is more "in" Hamilton.
