Alabama River Parkway, near Millbrook, AL
*originally recorded on 4-23-23*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Harmon 12x24 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Harmon 12x24 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After getting the remaining crossings on the NS 3B North District documented, I went and got myself some lunch and then went over to the CSX S&NA South Subdivision to see about filming a few crossings along it. This was the first crossing I went to, and, not long after I got here, this CSX M645 came south through the crossing with an ES44AH pulling on the head-end and another ES44AH working as the mid-train DPU.
This crossing is a rather nice one, featuring a late-90s CSX install that's still fairly original. It appears that at some point not too long after these signals were installed, the far signal had its original GS Type 1 e-bell die rather young and was either replaced with the current GS Type 2 e-bell, or just had the sound board replaced with a GS Type 2 board. Either way, both bells here look to be fairly close in age, and I'm glad to see the closer signal still retains its original GS Type 1 e-bell. Hopefully these signals remain unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I got them recorded.
I think this might also be the only remaining crossing on the S&NA South with Harmon lights at it.
