*originally recorded on 7-1-23*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
After catching the northbound autorack train in Waring, I returned to Dalton to get at least two more crossings filmed, going to this one first since it was closer. After a little while of waiting (and hearing a southbound approach, but stop at/in the passing siding to my north), I was able to get this second northbound NS autorack train, which had an NS ES44DC pulling on the head-end and a UP AC44CWCTE working as the DPU.
This crossing is another nice one, featuring another modernized mid-70s SOU install at it. In the 1980s/early-90s, it appears that NS replaced all of the original 8 inch lights here with the current Safetran 12x24s, and the original Safetran gate mech on the far signal with the current Safetran one at about the same time. Then, in the 2000s (or potentially the early-2010s), NS replaced the bell here with the current GS Type 2 e-bell, with thankfully no further major changes to the crossing since. I'm glad to see that the closer signal especially still retains its original gate mech, and the lights here have also gotten nice and faded over the years, it appears. Hopefully the guys remain unchanged here for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I got to film them.
