Clarkwood Road, near Rockmart, GA
*originally recorded on 8-15-23*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 5 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After I caught CSX L810 departing Rockmart, I chased it over to this crossing as I figured I may have enough time to beat it here. Sure enough, I did, but only got here shortly before the train did, which is why I set-up on the slightly backlit side. Did have plenty of time to get set-up and recording, however.
This crossing is a fairly decent one, and is one of several early-2000s CSX installs on the CSX Cartersville Sub, of which there are five between Rockmart and Cedartown. Of those five, this is the only one with a cantilever still, which is why I chose to shoot it.
The signals appear to be largely unchanged from when they were installed, with the far signal even still retaining a fully diagonally-striped gate arm, which is nice to see. Seems like CSX went through somewhat recently and replaced a lot of the surviving diagonally-striped gate arms on the Cartersville Sub.
US 278 can just be seen on the other side of the crossing.
