The only change to these old SCL signals since I last saw them in 2015 was that the overhead lights were upgraded to LED sometime around the end of 2016/beginning of 2017. Other than that, there have been no changes to this crossing.

That's great how the FS lights got retrofitted LEDs instead of being flat out replaced

After seeing the local doing a switching move at Court Street, I decided to run on over to this crossing. Here, I caught the local freight heading on out to Birmingham after picking up his conductor.
I decided to record this crossing from the north side of it (which has the WCH mechanical bell), as the lighting allowed for it yesterday. Good thing I chose to do this as well, since it turns out that the gate lights on this signal were replaced with NEG LEDs, for some reason. No other major changes have occured here, from what I can tell.

On May 11th, I went down to Talladega to do some railfanning on the CSX Lineville Sub there, as I knew of some crossings I wanted to try to record/rerecord, including some upgrades I needed to check on. I left a bit late and wound-up getting here in the afternoon, so I only did an afternoon's worth of railfanning, but I apparently hit Talladega at a good time as I got quite a few trains on this day. This was the first one, which came out from Inter-Rail not too long after I got here. It was Q222 with a YN2 AC44CW leading a YN3 AC44CW, which was a rather great lash-up to start my afternoon with. The train also paused briefly to pick-up someone at the crew depot next to this crossing.
As you can see, a few changes have occured to this crossing since I last recorded it. The most major one, and the saddest, was that the WCH mechanical bell here has been replaced with an NEG e-bell. Not entirely sure why they did it, but I'm guessing it must've died, sadly. Thought it was related to the gate mast's base being replaced, but it appears that that had already happened when I was here last. Either way, it's sad to see another mechanical bell along this line disappear, glad I got a good few videos of the WCH bell here before it was replaced.
Speaking of bells, it also appears that the Safetran Type 2 on the closer signal was replaced with an NEG e-bell as well. Think this may have occurred prior to my last video here and I just didn't notice it until now. But it is a bit hard to tell, TBH. However, the closer signal has also had one of the RECO LED gate lights on it replaced with an NEG LED gate light as well, though the new NEG LED has already come off of the gate arm, lol.
Either way though, I'm glad to see that the old (if modernized) SCL cantilevers are still around here. Hope they remain in service for a good while to come.
