Spring Creek Road (TN 279), Estill Springs, TN

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED and incandescent gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED and incandescent gate lights.

As you can see, this crossing is a mostly-pure 1990s CSX install! The gate on the left is also extremely long, and it seems to have a bit of trouble staying down as the bell keeps intermittently ringing until the gates begin to rise.

There are also a large number of these 1990s CSX installs still in service between Estill Springs and Tullahoma, TN. I'm really grateful for that as these installs have to be some of my favorite crossing signals installed by any railroad.
They/Them for me, please.

*originally recorded on 5-28-24*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a Siemens gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a WCH mechanical bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.

After getting the southbound mixed freight in Sherwood, I finally made my way up to this crossing in Estill Springs, where I got to meet-up with @EthantheRailfanner again. After a bit of waiting, we were able to catch this southbound mixed freight with a CM44AC leading a pair of ES40DCs and a GP38-2 for power.

As you can see, this crossing has received a few upgrades to it since I last recorded it back in 2017. Sometime between 2018 and 2019, CSX upgraded the main lights on the closer signal here to LED, but strangely left the rest of the lights at this crossing incandescent. Then, in 2022, CSX upgraded the rest of the incandescent lights at this crossing to LED, along with replacing both of the gate mechanisms here with the current Siemens ones at about the same time. Thankfully, the WCH mechanical bell here was left untouched and is now the last mechanical bell in Estill Springs. Hopefully it remains here for many more years to come.
