*originally recorded on 6-12-24*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of L&W 8 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of L&W 8 inch lights.
After catching M602, I'd thought about chasing it back up to Opelika, but we decided to head for Sprott Road instead. After a bit of waiting, and not seeing anything, I decided to head off and check the signals at the ends of the Mt. Meigs siding, only to find-out that nothing was lined through the siding. As such, we decided to just head on and get some gas before heading to Prattville for supper. After getting some supper here, we hopped on over to this crossing on the Autauga Northern, as we figured they should be leaving before too long. Sure enough, right about 6:40-ish, the AUT came rolling north through the crossing with a GP40-3 leading a GP35R and a GP35 for power! This would be our fourth and final train of the day, but it wouldn't be our last video of the day...
This crossing is a very nice one and I'm glad I was able to record it as well. The signals here were installed by the ICG back in the 1970s, and are still largely original. It appears that, in the 2000s, NS replaced the bell here with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Thankfully, since then, no further major changes appear to have occurred here, and this crossing still retains all of its classic L&W 8 inch lights.
This crossing is also one of only two cantilevered crossings on the Autauga Northern, and features a pair of classic Walpar cantilevers at it, which is nice to see. I'm glad to see these cantilevers are also still fully 8 inch, as you don't see 8 inch cantilevers too often, especially down here in the south. Hopefully this classic crossing remains unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I got to record it when I did.
They/Them for me, please.
