*originally recorded on 6-21-24*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After I caught M501 at Elm Hill Pike, I continued on up to this crossing after discovering that a nearby WCH mechanical bell had been replaced. After about an hour or so at most of waiting, I was able to get my third train of the day: a southbound mixed freight with a YN2 AC44CW leading a YN3 AC44CW for power! Definitely one of my better catches, on this day.
This crossing is another nice one, even if it's a bit of a more modern one. Originally, there were a pair of gateless 8 inch signals here from the L&N, which had had the lone bell here replaced with a Safetran Type 2 e-bell at some point in the mid-2000s. Sometime between 2007 and 2009 (per street view and the FRA's inventory reports for this crossing), CSX replaced the old gateless signals here with the current gated signals, with the far signal getting a gated cantilever rather than another gatedmast signal. Since then, thankfully, no other changes appear to have occurred to this crossing, aside from this crossing having had both of its original gate arms replaced sometime after 2021. I'm definitely glad to see this late-2000s CSX install pretty much entirely unchanged since it was installed, however, as I always do enjoy filming CSX crossings of this age. Hopefully it continues to remain unchanged for many more years to come, but either way, I'm glad to have been able to film it.
