Lewisburg Avenue (US 431 Business), Franklin, TN
*originally recorded on 7-12-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs.
After catching L696 heading north, I went off and filmed some traffic lights and older pedestrian signals around Franklin while waiting for it to come back south from Radnor. Eventually, I made my way over to this crossing where, after a little while of waiting (and eating my lunch I snagged from a Publix), I was able to catch CSX L696 returning back to Spring Hill with an SD50-3 leading the GP40-2 for power this time! Always do enjoy getting to see SD50s, so I'm glad I got to shoot this guy leading three times, especially since the last time I shot a CSX SD50 was all the way back in 2017. The crew on this train gave me another horn salute as well, which was nice to hear.
This crossing is another great one, being the last remaining gateless crossing on the Nashville Sub I had yet to record (though there is one that I need to rerecord, as y'all'll see in the next video). It appears that originally, there was an old L&N install of some kind here. However, in the late-90s, CSX replaced both signals with the current ones. The crossing was then left unchanged for at least a few years, but, sometime between 2013 and 2014, CSX upgraded the lights here to LED. Thankfully, this crossing has remained pretty much unchanged since, and even still retains its GS Type 1 e-bell! With this crossing I've now filmed every GS Type 1 on the Nashville Sub, along with every crossing on the Nashville Sub with a GS e-bell as well. Hopefully this crossing continues to remain unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was finally able to film it.
