*originally recorded on 8-24-21*

Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

After catching Q514, I went up to Cullman, where I found that a southbound was lined through South End Holmes Gap. As such, I decided to return back down to Hanceville to catch it. After a little bit of waiting, the fifth train that I caught on this day finally came through: a loaded coal train with an ES44AH leading an ES40DC on the head-end, and an ET44AH working as the mid-train DPU.

Since I last recorded this crossing back in 2016, there's been a couple of changes to this crossing. For starter, the gate mast on the far signal had its base replaced with a double-sided Safetran one. At some point as well (probably about the same time?) the tip gate light on the far signal's gate arm was also replaced with an NEG LED gate light. Other than that though, no major changes appear to have occurred here to these older L&N signals, and the GS Type 1 at this crossing still lives on, thankfully. Hopefully these signals remain unchanged for a good while longer, but I always do enjoy seeing older gated installs of this style.
