Sanderfer Road, Athens, AL
Westbound signal: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, 1 RECO incandescent gate light, and 2 RECO LED gate lights.
Eastbound signal: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran Type-2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After the northbound intermodal passed, a CSX local came up from Decatur to switch the industries here in Athens. This caused the crossing to time out a few times as they did the switching.
The bell here is also really, really quiet. It's rather hard to hear from the opposite side of the crossing, and is noticeably very quiet on near side of the crossing, relative to the bell.

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching the southbound mixed freight, I decided to head down to Sanderfer Road to take a closer look at the new gate arms that were installed there. While I was there, I noticed that the signals at the north end of Athens Siding were showing a green for another northbound train. As such, I decided to set-up here and wait for it, which didn't take too long at all. This train was a very short northbound intermodal train with a YN3 ES40DC leading a YN2 AC44CW.
This was the third and final train I saw today, so I guess I was just 3/3 for intermodals today. Don't really mind too much though, since I haven't seen many intermodals within the past few months, and two of them had pretty decent lash-ups.
In the almost three years since I last recorded this crossing, a couple things here have changed. First off, is that both gate arms, and all of the gate lights here were replaced, so now this crossing features all NEG LED gate lights. This was likely done back in 2017 when CSX replaced a bunch of older gate arms along this line, including the ones at Pryor Street, but I didn't get any updated shots here until just earlier today. The other notable change is that the bell no longer rings until the gates rise, now just shutting off when the gates have lowered like just about every other CSX crossing in existence. The quiet Safetran Type 2 here remains though.
