Signal on the right #2: 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs.
After catching 156 again in Mableton, I hit the road and made my way over to this crossing. Here, just south of the crossing, I saw what appeared to be a north/westbound train waiting to depart from Inman Yard, so I went ahead and started my camera, before documenting the new equipment here. As I'm doing that, however, I look to my northwest and see 156 approaching once again. As such, here we see NS 156 for the fourth and final time on this day, making their way into NS's Inman Yard here in Atlanta. After this, I snagged a lunch from a nearby Waffle House before making my way over to Charleston, SC, where I met-up with EthantheRailfanner at our hotel for the night.
This crossing is a pretty decent one, and certainly wasn't a bad one to end my railfanning on this day off with. The signals here appear to be a mid-2000s NS install, certainly no newer than 2007, though, sometime between 2007 and 2012, the closer signal here was replaced, presumably due to being hit. However, rather than replacing it with one signal, NS chose to replace it with two: an older gated NS signal (I'm assuming from the late-90s at the latest) and a gateless SOU signal. Interestingly enough, this gateless signal also features a reused 1970s-era Safetran head on it. The crossing remained largely unchanged for at least a decade after, but, it seems that sometime between when RaisedLetter visited this crossing in 2020 and 2023, the original Safetran Type 3 e-bell here was replaced with a newer one. Then, in 2023, NS replaced the gate mast on the far signal with a newer one (replacing the gate mech as well), and upgraded all of the lights here to LED as a result. Since then, it doesn't seem like any major changes have occurred to this crossing.
