Pittman Road, near Micro, NC
*originally recorded on 7-30-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a WCH gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a dead WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
As I wasn't expecting the local freight, and I knew the northbound Palmetto was gonna be hot on its tail, I had to scramble and find another crossing of interest in nearby I knew I could beat Amtrak to. I decided on this crossing just outside of Micro, NC, as I knew it had some good equipment at it. As such, once the local freight passed, I hit the road and raced on up to this crossing. Thankfully, I had plenty of time to spare when I got here, and, a little while later, I got my sixth train of the day: Amtrak 90 with an ALC-42 for power.
This crossing is a pretty decent one, featuring a mostly-original 1980s CSX install at it. It appears the only major change here occurred sometime between 2016 and 2019, when CSX upgraded this crossing to LED. Thankfully, outside of the LEDs here, this crossing is pretty much still entirely original. Sadly, the WCH mechanical bell here is completely dead, so I suspect another upgrade will be happening to this crossing before too long. Hopefully the bell here is fixed, but I wouldn't be too surprised to find-out that it has since become an NEG e-bell.
One slightly unusual thing about this crossing is the bases. Normally, 80s CSX installs have single-sided ones, however, for whatever reason, this crossing uses double-sided bases on it. Not sure why this was done, I don't believe I've seen any other 80s CSX installs with them.
They/Them for me, please.
