Doliska Road #1, Dora, AL

*originally recorded on 11-12-20*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

This was the third crossing I chased NS 329 to on November 12th. It's a pretty decent, if a bit boring, mid-2000s NS install, with the really only notable change apparently being that the gate lights here were upgraded to LEDs at some point.
However, I wanted to record it as the hill located on this side of the crossing provides for a nice angle. This crossing does have the only cantilever signal in Dora, however, and a bit unusually, at least for NS, the bell on the cantilever is actually found on the gate mast. Not entirely sure why this was done, as NS tends to prefer to place their bells on the cantilever mast, but I don't really mind it too much.

After catching 75G in Graysville, we continued chasing it north, heading to this crossing next. Just as we got here, we heard a train calling the signal over in Wyatt over the scanner, so we quickly got set-up. About a minute and a half later, we wound-up unexpectedly getting our fifth and final train of the day: NS A79 with an NS AC44C6M leading an NS ES44DC and a UP SD70M for power, all running elephant-style! Definitely wasn't expecting to see A79 on this day, so this was a pleasant surprise.
Also, if this train seems familiar, that's because this train used to be NS 329. Not too long before this was filmed, NS changed-up the IDs of several of the more minor mixed freights, turning them into local freights, and this one became NS A79 as a result. It's partner, what used to be 320, is now NS A78.

I decided to go back to this crossing as well as I hadn't filmed this crossing since 2020 either. It appears that thankfully not too much has changed here in the years since. However, interestingly enough, NS replaced the RECO LED gate lights on the cantilever here with the current set of new RECO incandescent gate lights. The gate lights here are miswired now as a result though, with the tip gate light now flashing with the middle gate light on the closer signal's gate arm.
