*originally recorded on 10-5-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After I caught 394, I stuck around here for Amtrak to get this crossing recorded. After a little bit of waiting, they departed from the station in downtown Annison and I was able to get my second train of the day: Amtrak 19 with a P42DC leading an ALC-42 for power and a friendly crew aboard!
This crossing is another nice one, featuring the oldest signals in Anniston at it. The signals here were originally installed by the Southern Railway back in the late-70s, though, in the mid-90s, NS replaced the gate mech on the far signal with the current Safetran one. Then, in the early-2000s, NS further modernized this crossing by upgrading the lights here to the current Safetran 12x20s, and replaced the bell(s) here with the current GS Type 2s at about the same time. Thankfully, since then, no further major changes here appear to have occurred to this crossing. Amazingly, the closer signal still retains its original late-70s Safetran gate mech, which is great to see. Definitely nice to get some more old SOU signals filmed, even if NS has modernized them, hopefully they're around for a good while longer.
