Whitehouse Road, Jasper, AL

*originally recorded on 12-29-20*

Signal on the left: 4 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.

I chased NS 329 all the way up to Jasper, but when the signals at the diamond dropped from green to red for 329 prior to the train reaching it, I figured a BNSF train was coming so I set-up at this crossing instead of the one I was originally gonna get. 329 wound-up coming on through, with the tail-end of it clearing the diamond not long before the BNSF train reached this crossing, based on the defect detector read-out heard in the video. Either way though, I don't mind, as I don't record the BNSF Birmingham Sub as much as I probably should.
This train was also pretty decent. It was a northbound intermodal train with an ES44C4 leading an SD70ACe and an ES44DC. Funnily enough, I'd actually seen this train earlier in the day in Birmingham, but wasn't able to catch it down there.

This crossing is also a pretty nice one. The signals here are some older BN ones from the 1980s, which appear to have possibly replaced some even older Frisco signals based on the steps on the masts. In the 1990s, however, either BN or BNSF replaced the lights on the closer signal with the current Safetran 12x20s, and then the bell here was replaced with the current GS Type 2 in the early 2000s, with no major changes here since.
They/Them for me, please.

*originally recorded on 3-4-25*

Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

On March 4th, I got on up and headed down to Jasper to finally get one of their siren tests filmed. As I got down there a bit early, I just scouted-out where I wanted to record a siren from, and then hopped over to the BNSF Birmingham Sub to see if anything was coming. Thankfully, a southbound was already lined through Jasper, so I went on over to this crossing and set-up. After a bit of waiting, I was able to catch my first train of the day: BNSF Q-LACATG with an ES44C4 leading a pair of Dash-9s for power.

As you can see, this crossing has changed quite a bit since I last recorded it. Sometime between 2022 and 2024, the older gateless signals here were sadly replaced by the current gated signals. Unsurprisingly, the current signals here are pretty much a modern gated BNSF install, with 12x24 inch Siemens signals with Dialight Ball LEDs and GS Type 3 e-bells. Definitely glad I was able to get the gateless signals that used to be here recorded, I'm kinda surprised that the neighboring A Street crossing is still incandescent, TBH.
