Re: Sullivan Street, Madison, AL
*originally recorded on 2-25-24*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a dead Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After 101 came through, A04 got permission back out onto the main to head to Lumber and tie down. Here we see NS A04 for the last time on this day, running lite towards Greenbrier with a nice RS3L on the ex-Conrail SD40-2.
It appears that, since I last recorded this crossing, the tip gate light on the far signal was replaced with a RECO LED. No other changes appear to have occurred to these signals, however.
Also, gotta love the person who proceeded to run the red light after the crossing deactivated, lol.

After catching 283 at Segers Road, I went over to downtown Madison to try and get this crossing recorded. After a little bit of waiting, 286 pulled-up and disconnected their power to work downtown Madison, so here we get to see 286's power running lite across Sullivan Street.
Sometime earlier this year, certainly between February and September, NS replaced the dead Safetran Type 3 e-bell here. Interestingly, they replaced the bell on the closer signal, which I believe had been the one that was still working. I'm guessing they decided to either swap-out the dead Safetran Type 3 with the working one from this crossing, or I was just mishearing things and it was actually the closer signal's bell that was dead.
Also, slightly unrelated, but NS apparently has installed a new defect detector just west of downtown Madison, so I'll have to see about recording it the next time I'm out this way.

Re: Sullivan Street, Madison, AL
Still the same as of 4-8-25:
However, this would be the last video I would get of this crossing with its original Safetran gate mechs.

Re: Sullivan Street, Madison, AL
*originally recorded on 5-15-25*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, RECO gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After we shot 286 shoving back, we hopped over to this crossing to record it next as it also had an upgrade I needed to get documented. After a little bit of waiting, the conductor had climbed back aboard the head end of 286 and they got rolling east. Here we see NS 286 for the second time on this day, crawling through the crossing with NS 8098 third-out, heading to meet an A43 over at Elko.
Back in April, NS replaced both of the original gate masts and Safetran S-60 gate mechs here, as at least one of the gate masts (and gate mechs) had gotten damaged over the years and was in dire need of replacement. The new equipment, unsurprisingly, is from Siemens and features a pair of S-40 gate mechs with the modern "imprinted" style of case on them. The new gate masts here are also definitely rather tall, I must say. I believe the gate arms were reused from the old gate mechs here.
When the masts were originally delivered, they actually were full mast signals with Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs on them and one of them having a GS (Type 3?) e-bell. The lights and bell were obviously taken off before they were installed here, though I personally suspect the bell is what went up at Church Street, as those signals originally lacked any bells when they were delivered.
