Industrial Road (TN 384), Covington, TN
*originally recorded on 5-21-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On May 21st, after attempting to get the weekly siren test in Covington, vtgrxrman and I decided to do some railfanning on the CN Fulton Subdivision to kill time until Memphis's siren test. After a little while of waiting, we were able to catch our first train of the day: a northbound unit tank car train (not sure if it was carrying oil or ethanol, though there weren't any buffer cars nor were there any hazard placards on the tank cars themselves) with a lone ES44DC pulling and a Dash-9 working as the DPU.
This crossing is a nice one, featuring another pair of classic ICG signals at it from the 1970s. In the mid-1990s, the IC replaced both of the original gate mechs here with the current Safetran ones. Then, sometime between 2008 and 2012 it appears (possibly?), CN upgraded this crossing to LED. Thankfully, these old signals still retain their original Safetran 8 inch light heads and Safetran mechanical bell, which is great to see. Hopefully they remain here unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was able to record this crossing when I did.
