*originally recorded on 5-21-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Before catching the northbound tank train, it sounded like we had a southbound on the way, so vtgrxrman and I hopped on down across Covington to get this crossing next. After about half an hour or so of waiting, we were able to get our second train of the day: a northbound empty coal train with a lone ET44AC pulling on the head-end and another ET44AC working as the train's DPU.
This crossing is another great one, featuring another late-70s ICG install that's still largely original. It appears that the only major change here occurred back in the 2000s, when CN upgraded this crossing to LED. Thankfully, since then (or even before then), no other major changes appear to have occurred here. As such, these signals still retain their original light heads, gate mechs, and mechanical bell, which is great to see. Hopefully these classic ICG signals remain here for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was able to record them when I did. Nice to see there's still an old wooden grade here as well.
