After catching L717 at Sanford Avenue #1 in Sanford, I chased them on down to this crossing for my next video of this train. Here, I wound-up meeting the two local railfans again when they got here just before L717 did. Either way, I was able to catch CSX L717 for the third time today, stopping briefly on this crossing to line a switch so they could work a scrap yard at the very end of the line.
This crossing's a pretty decent one, even if it isn't the most interesting, and features what I believe are the newest signals on the CSX Aloma Spur. The signals here were installed sometime between 2020 and 2022, when the trail they're on was built, and are original to this crossing. Due to the fact that both signals here are on the left-hand sides of their respective approaches on the trail, it honestly kinda reminds me of crossings you see over there in the UK and especially over in Australia, TBH. It's also always nice to get another signalized pedestrian crossing filmed, IMHO.
This crossing is actually the southernmost signalized crossing on the line as well, as the next crossing south, right next to the scrap yard at the very end of the CSX Aloma Spur, is only protected by a pair of crossbucks. This crossing is also the only signalized crossing within Winter Springs's city limits, interestingly enough as well. I suspect there would've been more in/around Winter Springs once upon a time, as it appears that this ex-ACL line used to continue further southeast to at least Oviedo, where it appears to have met another line. Of course, past the scrap yard the line has long since been abandoned and ripped-out (along with the line it appears to have met in Oviedo), with what ROW hasn't been built-over in the years since becoming a rail trail.
They/Them for me, please.
