Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
On the morning of June 27th, my friend and I got on up in Cordele and got out to the CSX Fitzgerald Subdivision to see about getting some crossings of interest along it filmed. As we were heading out to a crossing northwest of Cordele, we found-out an M605 had just come through, so we decided to try and chase it northwest. Eventually, we were able to beat it over to this crossing with plenty of time to spare. After a few minutes of waiting, we were able to catch our first train of the day: CSX M605 with a CM44AC leading an ES44AH and an AC44CW for power.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring an old SBD install at it from the mid-80s, it appears. At some point, it seems the front-left mast light on the far signal was replaced by the current (reused) FS 12x24 inch light. Then, in the early-90s, it seems CSX replaced the relay case here, replacing both of the gate masts here at the same time. It appears at least the bells here were reused onto the newer gate masts, though I have no idea if the lights and/or gate mechs would've been reused as well, or if they were replaced with the current ones at the time. Either way, the crossing remained largely unchanged until sometime between 2013 and 2014, when CSX upgraded it to LED. Finally, sometime between 2014 and 2019, CSX replaced the Safetran mechanical bell on the far signal here with the current NEG e-bell. Thankfully, since then, nothing else too major appears to have changed here, which is nice to see. It's also nice to see that the closer signal still retains its original Safetran mechanical bell, which still sounds pretty nice and healthy. Hopefully it remains here for many more years to come. The lights facing the camera on the closer signal here have also all had their LED arrays pop out of their gaskets, so I imagine CSX will either be fixing or replacing them eventually. Either way, I'm definitely glad I was able to get this crossing recorded when I did.
