Clark Street (GA 90/GA 208), Talbotton, GA

*originally recorded on 6-27-25*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, NEG LED gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a dead Safetran Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, NEG LED gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.

Up at Woodland, M208 wound-up meeting an unexpected southbound train there, which got going shortly after M208 cleared the crossing. As such, we chased it on back south to this crossing in Talbotton to see if we could get it. After a little bit of waiting here, we were able to catch our fifth train of the day: CSX I198 with an SD70MAC leading an ES40DC for power! They were also absolutely crawling through here for some reason, not entirely sure why they were.

This crossing is a pretty decent one, if a bit on the boring side. Admittedly, the main reason I even got it was because I wanted to get a video of I198, and I thought it'd be nice to get some more CSX-owned Dialight Ball LEDs filmed. Anyways, this crossing originally had a very classic pair of split-mast signals from the ACL, similar to the ones I'd recorded at 14th Street in Tampa, FL, earlier in the week, though they had rear lights and the closer one had a pair of side lights on it. It appears that, in the late-60s/early-70s, the SCL replaced all of the 8 inch lights here with newer ones and at least the bell on the closer signal at about the same time. Then, in the early-2000s, CSX replaced the far signal entirely with the current one, which was originally incandescent. The crossing remained largely unchanged for a few more years after, but, then, sometime between 2008 and 2009, the closer signal here was finally replaced entirely as well with the current one, sadly. The crossing remained largely unchanged, but, then, sometime in the early 2010s (I believe between 2013 and 2014), CSX upgraded the far signal to LED. Thankfully, since then, nothing else appears to have changed to this crossing, which is nice to see. Unfortunately, the Safetran Type 2 e-bell on the closer signal has died at some point, though the GS Type 2 e-bell on the far side still seems to be going strong. Definitely nice to get some more Dialight Ball LEDs filmed, though it's still a shame that the absolutely classic split mast ACL signal that'd been here is now gone.
