An interesting note: I filled up my 16-gallon gas tank from empty to full the other day for only 32 CENTS! Price Chopper, a local supermarket chain, allows you to save money on gas. With an Advantage card, with every $50 you spend at on groceries, you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas. It's cumulative until you use it. My parents have been saving for a couple of months now and we finally used the card to fill up my car. We had a discount of $2.80 and the price of gas was only $2.75, so you'd think we'd get a free tank, but we for some reason still had to pay 32 cents. But, who cares! At what point in time could you fill up a 16-gallon tank for only 32 cents?! That equates to a price of 2 cents per gallon!

I would imagine the 32 cents was the taxes. Just a guess though.

Realistically there shouldn't be any taxes that you have to pay, but I think it could be a register glitch because of the coupon.
Here's why I say that. We had a problem at our store this week with a customer who came in and used a coupon and paid with their "EBT" (food stamp) card...
They purchased 5 6-pack 24oz Pepsi Products... that were 3.00 each and had a coupon for buy four, get one free. Well, soda pop is an allowable purchase for EBT cards, and should cover the whole purchase (including bottle deposit, which is of course five cents here in Iowa). However when all was said and done, they ended up being charged eleven cents. Somehow the use of the coupon tricked our system into believing that they had to pay sales tax on the deposit for the bottles. (30 bottles x .05 = 1.50. 1.50 x 7% sales tax = .11.) However EBT purchases of soda without coupons never pay a penny out of pocket.
Now of course, in this instance the cashier knew better and called a manager over to take off the 11 cents... but oddly enough, I have a feeling that this may be why you had to pay 32 cents, even though realistically the gas should have been free.
