As long as we're speaking about Cedar Rapids, Crandic updated some of the other track signs awhile back.
In addition, the old Edgewood Road Crandic crossing has been replaced by this:

Wow, they're doing some real hard-core road construction in that area building 2 overpasses, and I changing the elevation of the roadway as well.
Well,
Re: Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
This was how the crossing looked for a few months before Edgewood Rd. was realigned. The crossing was never passive before it was realigned.
These pictures were taken shortly after the new alignment opened.
The overpasses are complete, final touches to the new roadway are almost complete. Barring any unforseen circumstances, they should open to traffic sometime this week.

Not a bad upgrade, but still, why remove the cantilevers, and a bell?

Re: Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
So they're building an overpass and two frontage roads on either side of it? Weird...
You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.
Re: Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Unless the frontage roads are needed to access driveways or business in that area... my guess is that they will be closed once the overpass opens.
Re: Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Part of the existing roadway will be turned into a frontage road to access the General Mills plant. Aside from that, the existing roadway, along with both grade crossings will be torn up after the new overpasses open.cabman701 wrote:my guess is that they will be closed once the overpass opens.

Oh. That explains why the cantilevers weren't reused.
Re: Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Both Edgewood overpasses are now open, with access to the General Mills plant being via the new Crandic crossing and the old UP crossing as of Tuesday.
Also, the 2nd St SW Crandic crossing has had its other m-bell replaced with a WCH e-bell.
