Has anyone seen (o)=(o) with protruding red lens?

Talk about signals ranging from wigwags to EVA signals here.

Has anyone seen (o)=(o) with protruding red lens?

Post by Robert_Gift »

In the early 1960s, as a little boy exploring the railroad track going through downtown Lewistown, PA,
I discovered a crossing signal which I hated.
The red lens protruded out, making the signal look bug-eyed. ([ )=([ )
I recall the lens started out round at the lamp and ended square - I think - having flat sides.

The signal faced south down a paved street which crossed the track.
Now, I realize the lens likely allowed drivers on a dirt drive coming from the east right next to the track
to see that the crossing signal was operating.
This probably saved the cost of another set of (o)=(o)
No crossing signals there had bells.

Has anyone seen such signalamps?
Would love to see a photo.

Thank you.

Something like that sounds very familiar, but I can't remember if I've seen those.

Wow!
Thanks, ml.

That is somewhat the idea, but what little I recall was squared off and had more lens visible to the sides.
Thank you for showing your's. Interesting
What is the purpose of those lens? Most is covered by the visor.

Looking on Google Earth, the signal I saw is no longer there.

Thank you.
