Do any "real" gates still exist?

I remember wooden gates that attached to the metal brackets on both sides of the gate machine.
The wood members converged and, I recall, joined into a single member continued about four feet further out.
Something like this: -<
They were very heavy and required heavy counterweights.

They were black and white.

No doubt they were very expensive and difficult to replace compared to today's single member lightweight fiberglass gates.

Black & white gates like that shouldn't exist anymore. Some of them on signals may still exist in a very small amount.

As for Red & White, there are quite a good number left. Look in the California section. You'll find quite a high number there.

I remember the Griswold gates that were mounted on the pedestal the were referred to as EM gate pedestal mount gates with wishbone gate arms.They were common on the railroads till the early 80's and are becoming rare today.
