Weird Things in Colorado Springs

Post by Josh »

Found a couple of strange things while perusing Street View through Colorado Springs, CO:

Some OLD cantilevers on an abandoned line. It looks like there's a bell right above the cantilever lights on the back of the left signal. Wish I could tell what kind it was, could be a teardrop:

At another crossing a little bit further down the line, this lone relic remains:

I think it's a safe bet to say that the relay case at this crossing pre-dates the signals themselves by several decades:

One of those strange traffic-light controlled crossings that seem to be common in CO. I think it's really weird how there is a traffic light on each side of the crossing aimed down the track for the train:

i am getting really sick of crossings using traffic lights as RR signals, they are not designed for crossings! just like how RR signals are not traffic lights!

That 3rd link I wonder why that one cantilever is so long. It doesn't have any lights attached at the end it looks like it overlaps the other one by quite a bit.

That reminds me of that triple cantilever crossing in Kingsburg Ca. All too long.

I remember that crossing from the site. It really looks like they either ordered the wrong kind... or they were too lazy to order the right kind and just used whatever they had available.

Shoddy work!
