if anything, that first track is probably hardly ever used, so incase they drop off a couple hopper cars, at least the cantilever can help stop traffic, then the gate can hold off the main line.

If they are going to take the time to put lights on the signal with the gate, why didn't they put a crossbuck also? Looks stupid without one... at least to me.

its setup as a double crossing. If one of those 3 lines gets a train all the signals go off anyway, eventhough the cantilever and gate are separate, they will still work to say the least.
