If you take a look at Street View, and the pictures submitted on 27th & Thomas, you'll see that the building is demolished, and there's nothing left for the gate to warn. The gated signal still remains warning nothing.

Didn't look.
That building looks fairly new! Gone?

Must be funny to see that signal warning an open field.
Found a similar situation north of Detroit years ago.
Mustry to find it.

This "intersection" kind of looks like the back of my computer desk, with all the computer wires that are twisted up in every direction. No wonder they are many accidents. People not familiar with it probably have no clue where they are trying to go!

I disagree.
From the driver's perspective, it is simple.

But some vehicles can be seen stopped beyond the stop line, - but still out of foul.

That must be the problem; drivers stopping on the track. Or drivers heading the wrong way on a street.
Grade crossing signals do not protect against drivers coming the wrong way.
Also, when one direction is allowed to proceed to clear anyone stopped on the track, the cross-traffic direction
cannot also move.
They no doubt cycle the traffic signals to clear both directions.

I still don't like how there are a few along that line that don't have gates... I understand that most are at intersections w/traffic lights, but I've seen quite a few close calls at the crossing on 19th Ave just north of Grant w/BNSF...

Expensive crossing signals for a siding which soon ended. How could they justify the cost?
I would have had only crossbucks.
Street view shows that only the signal cement foundations remain.
