it looks like the trail was once a railroad track, so could the signal have been part of a crossing, and the trail owners decided to fix it up. just my :2cents:

The one in the black & white picture looks more like one used at a zoo or something to that effect. I have seen one's like that before.

I have seen those exact scaled signals at Castle amusement Park in Riverside, Ca.
