Re: my friend pulled over for speeding while railfanning
my mom and I got a ticket between Skull Valley and Kirkland here in AZ, when we were going 60, the cop told us the speed limit along the entire highway was 35
. We came off a dirt access road and the speed limit wasn't posted. Well he was talking to us, the train we were looking for came by!
We later found out the speed limit was 50 not 35 like the officar told us, so the ticket shouldn't have been as severe and he lied to us! So Yavapai is going to get a very unpleasent complant letter. He also copied about 5 things off my moms licence incorrect.

Yes, that was wrong. The speed limit is 50 between Skull Valley and Kirkland for the most part, with some 35's in there. There used to be more 50 MPH stretches, until they panicked, and made some of the 50 down to 35.
Very strange that you'd get pulled over there, all the years I've been on that stretch, and I've never seen any police out there.
I can see why you'd speed a bit though. Going 50 all the way through, even through the 35 zones only gives you about a 1 minute head start to film between either crossing.

Actually, i wasnt chasing the train from SV to Krikland, i was waiting in SV for about 2 hours when we decided to head back, if we didnt get stopped, we would have made it to Kirkland at the same time as the train. the train was going north (RR east)

Oh. I see. Didn't know it was even on the way...
Still, weird that they are all of a sudden out in that area. Guess I'll have to be careful of that next time I'm out there, if that area is becoming a speed trap all of a sudden.

Heh when I am on the road, cops usually dont bother me. They'll go by me while I am going 60 down highway 29, and then they will come talk to me while i am sitting nearby at the tracks. Strange how that all works out.

Rest In Peace Guilford SD26 615!
