The design does look a bit Griswold-ish, but I see what you mean. Something about the design seems off.

Pretty odd setup if you ask me. Must of been more tracks...but why didn't they at least put the gate closer to the cantilever...or move the cantilever back?

I'm not so sure about there being more tracks at one time... look at the telephone poles next to the track. I doubt they would have went through the trouble of moving those. In fact, the wires there right in front of the gate might be the reason they didn't put it in it's "normal" spot.

Kind of remindes me of this crossing in my hometown:

At one time there was an alleyway on both sides of the track. The one on this side of the picture was removed about 5 years ago. The lights on the gate mast do not protect anything anymore.

Check out this really old whistle board in Hatboro, Pennsylvania!

You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.

Check out the signal on the other side of the tracks. No turn lights mounted in both directions, right on the signal:

The signals are still active in that shot (look at the other signal), but can't really tell if the turn lights are lit or not... a bit too bright out I guess.

Digging up an old topic, here's something I would want at the end of my driveway:

Wonder if you have to stop before you get the mail?
