In Harrodsburg Kentucky. Can you imagine getting your morning newspaper off the tracks before the train swept it away? According to the FRA, this is Norfolk Southern, and gets 16 trains a day. The rail appears welded with shiny tops, so I'd say it gets frequent use.

I'd want a scale signal or 2 outside of my yard with a track that close.

That would be the best house in the world, and you could probably get them for a steal when they are for sale.Smjh1979 wrote:I'd want a scale signal or 2 outside of my yard with a track that close.
I do agree with mike, i would buy a scale signal or make a homemade signal.

AND if you make your own signal for your private crossing, you dont have to be approved and do all that boring paperwork with the FRA and DOT! I'd buy a house there!

Rest In Peace Guilford SD26 615!

A homemade signal would be cool, but getting the RR to let you wire it up to their track might be a bit dicey.
I can imagine that those houses, after years of trains hammering by just feet away, have very few tight nails remaining in the framing. A signal detection circut might work off of the house shaking and windows rattling as the train approaches. Just a thought.
Maybe a garage laser parking system could be modified...
