Wacky cantilever (sort of) signal
This almost looks like something fabricated in a shop. Must be rather old too... judging by the crossbuck and inverted two tracks sign.
Cantilever?
I've never seen anything like this before. It's a cantilever, it's a gate keeper, it's TWO, TWO, TWO MINTS IN ONE!

Reminds me of a wind bracket with lights... A bit unusual indeed...

Re: Wacky cantilever (sort of) signal
that'd be a nice crossing to catch in action... though looks like the tracks dont see much action. Check out the inverted track sign on the cantilever

Re: Wacky cantilever (sort of) signal
That wouldn't be too hard for me to catch it in action, simply because the fact it's MY CROSSING! Hah, we just aquired a new line, and it includes this crossing! Georgia Southern RR owns it. Just got done inspecting it today. Got pictures, but not of the signals in action. Both bells are dead, but they can easily be fixed. Old old setup there indeed!
Re: Wacky cantilever (sort of) signal
Hey, Owens... How old do you think that street-view image is? Even though the line doesn't look in the best shape there... other than the discoloration on the back of that crossbuck (is that cast iron and cat's eye?) the rest of the signal looks from that angle to be pretty freshly painted.

yes the crossbucks are cat eyed as well as the two track sign as far as Google street view at least as old as 2008SirKrunch wrote:Hey, Owens... How old do you think that street-view image is? Eh, I don't know if I'd be willing to place a bet on that, but I guess stranger things are possible. The brackets that the lights are mounted to look from that angle like they'd be a bit flimsy for supporting a wigwag motor box.illinoistrains wrote:I bet thats an old Wigwag converted to a modern signal.
I wonder if there used to be a signal on the side street. Sure looks as if there's a barrier positioned like it used to protect a signal.
