Morons sleeping on railroad track? Orange County, CA.

"MISSION VIEJO, Calif. -- A Metrolink commuter train struck and killed two people who may have been sleeping on the tracks and injured a third in Orange County on Thursday, authorities said.

Metrolink train 603 heading from Oceanside to Los Angeles struck the trio on tracks under the Alicia Parkway overcrossing at 6:06 a.m., agency spokeswoman Angie Starr said. The group included two young women and a young man, authorities said.

The dead were identified late Thursday as Daniel Akins, 22, of Mission Viejo, and Anastasia Bolton, 17, of Del Mar, sheriff's Lt. Colin Murphy said."

Could he have sounded the horn earlier to get the fools to wake and move?

also this happens a lot with Mexicans, for some odd reason there told that if they sleep inside the rails the snakes wount be able to get them, now we all know thats not true but i guess they dont.
my friend with ns hit 2 teenagers in the rails and didnt even know it till they found the bodies the next day, he though it was a trashbag and keep on going. People throw stuff in front of the train all the time, if ever engineer cried wolf and dumps the air on the train wed have a lot more train wrecks, thats why unless you make visual contact that you about to hit a "person" you CANNOT apply the breaks in emergency, and after a few years on the job you wount give a crap anymore and the only time youll hit the break is when you hit em, most engineers i talk with say "no thump no dump"

When I rode in the locomotives or cab cars, I was always looking FAR ahead for any potential problems.
I asked various engineers if they ever brought binoculars to check out something suspicious noticed way ahead. I would.

No the kid had a black hoodie and was curled into a ball with his girlfriend and my friend blew the horn for a crossing in the area but didnt see them.
where he was running was in down town and there was a club next to the tracks and they through a lot of crap on to the tracks but the club is real nosiey he cant hear anything going by that club so he never heard when he hit them, not to mention hes looking ahead not down the view from a loco at night is not the most friendly

also that area, there trying to get a quiet zone too he said hell never follow it.

Train, I was referring to the Metro engineer.
When I have looked at that straight section of track from the locomotive or cab car, it was easy to see an object on that sterile track.

Did not know it was 6 a.m.. But was it not somewhat light there?
If not, then by the time the Darwin Award candidates were visible in theadend light, the horn would give little warning.

I thought it a bridge over a gulley because I do not know the territory.

What was the result?
Glad the train stopped so quickly.

If welded rail, too bad it could not have held the train and allowed it to pass without derailing.

Probable not until he was 30 ft from it like you said it looked like a viaduct.
idk the result im trying to find more info on this wreck (I haven found anything yet) judging by the loco cam it looks like a bnsf loco
and by not hearing railjoints in the video i bet it was welded rail and it looks like it held up well or youd see that train in that ditch, not continuing down the track
thats the fastest ive ever seen a train stop but then again when you got cars on the ground youll stop quicker
