NYS Severe Weather

Much of NYS got ricked with severe weather last night. We got hit by 4 seperate storms. Luckily no damage here in town but power outages were reported all over the area as well as numerous damage reports. At one point the lightning detector was detecting 104 flashes of lightning per minute. One bolt struck something only a couple of blocks away from me. It's all out of the area now and today was a rather peaceful day (except maybe for those cleaning up damage).

We had our THIRD tornado watch of the season issued today! Normally we don't even get one watch issued! Fortunately nothing happened, as has been the case with the other two watches. But interestingly enough, we've had 2 or 3 confirmed cases of tornadoes this season and yet none occured when a watch was issued...

... And the one time when we DIDN'T have a tornado watch out we get a tornado! It was several miles to my south, so I wasn't affected, but as it turns out, there wasn't even a tornado warning issued. There was a severe t-storm warning for that cell though. It produced an EF1 tornado that did some pretty good damage, mostly ripping up trees and causing them to crash into houses. Two things amaze me: the fact that it happened at such an early hour (5:18 AM) and that it happened in mid-November! Because of it being so early, many people were asleep when the storm initially hit. This was also an unprecedented event, as the forcast only called for some wind and a rumble of thunder, so given those facts, it was fortunate that no one was injured or killed.
