Re: some of my favorite Tom & Jerry episodes
I love Tom & Jerry. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes. I still like watching them. I think it's better than some of the garbage that's out now.
Re: some of my favorite Tom & Jerry episodes
"Springtime for Tom" and "Cat Fishin" are also pretty good.
It was never really established if the black Southern Lady was Toms owner, or just the house keeper. In keeping with the tenor of the times, her official name around the studio was "Mammy Two-Shoes". This character has slowly been edited out or down to where modern society finds her less offensive to African-Americans
In "Saturday Evening Puss" there is a fleeting moment where her face was actually visible. Which I attached below. This is the only known image of Mammy Two-Shoes, and it has since been removed from the cartoon.
I wouldn't want her mad at me...

A lot of the 40s T&J cartoons are my favorite. Especially the earlier shorts. The 60s versions, especially with Chuck Jones are my least favorite.
Re: some of my favorite Tom & Jerry episodes
The ones by Chuck Jones were certainly an improvement over the disasters by Gene Deitch.

That is true, but they just felt "off" for me.

Chuck Jones was a master at his trade, but T & J were not Looneytunes; he tried to make them so, and it didn't work.Smjh1979 wrote:That is true, but they just felt "off" for me.

Not a T & J, but it's done by Tex Avery, so that's an A+. (After the commercial of course)
