Re: Bell only crossings
Here's something I'd like to know though... if you follow that line a ways further, you come across this out of service crossing.
Wonder what this says
The sign view is too fuzzy to make out... but I wonder if it says something about rail service to come again?

Re: Bell only crossings
Kind of looks like it... Now extra work will have to be done to un-pave the track.
Re: Bell only crossings
Found this one tooling about Indianapolis this morning...
Poor lonely E-bell
And a bit off the topic, but not located far away... check out these old rustbucket signals with freshly painted backgrounds on the lightheads... and cast-iron crossbucks!

Pretty cool finds. Those rusty cantilevers still look good even with all that rust.

Two in St. Louis, MO, both on the UP line along the Mississippi. One was on Mott Street, can't remember the other one. Mott Street has two m-bells, the other a WCH e-bell, but used to have an m-bell.
funny how even though there are lights only crossings without bells, crossbuck xings, and xing with just bells from Chouteau Ave-Courtois St and then to Davis St. on the Desoto Sub its all A QUIET ZONE

I speak my mind, if you don't like that oh well. I'll have you fill out a hurt feelings report and submit that to my office.

Here's a nice shot of the bell taken by the leader of the Amesrailfans yahoo group. He was just in the area a couple weeks ago to check on the status of the line.SirKrunch wrote:http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41.6 ... 94,,0,3.18
Located between NE of Des Moines on a remaining UPRR spur line to Bondurant, IA. Formerly this was a CNW line that went up to Marshalltown but that segment was abandoned in the 80's. The line is currently in Class I status, however the state of Iowa and City of Bondurant are wanting to save the line as the city wants the line for expected future use. Interesting thing is though, even though it is UPRR trackage it seems that IAIS uses it... as there is motive power for them on the line occasionally, and the signals installed at one of the crossings in town have a setup with a gate light on one of them. UPRR does not use that around here, but IAIS does.
Justin Hardecopf wrote:Have not heard anything about the Bondurant Industrial Lead in a while. I did some exploring on the line on Sunday morning since there was nothing running around town. The red board is still up nearly under the I-80 overpass. There is a tree fallen across the line just north of the NE 54th Ave crossing."

Re: Bell only crossings
Looks like this bell only crossing is getting an upgrade. The tallest crossbuck has a hole with wires in it.Look like it's getting lights.

Is the old pole notall enough or too close to the track for new code requirements?PaulSP wrote:... But then i saw where they are going to put lights but i wonder why they just didn't use the old pole.
Does new pole have breakaway bolts if a vehicle collision?

Re: Bell only crossings
Thanks for the photos, Paul. Any more to the left?
(Your avatar is that now lone signal in Oxnard with gate facing away.)
To the north east of this location, are these target signals to show thathe crossing signals have activated on the rusty track?
Scan around to see another signal:
