Re: Tracks out of service
These are gone as are the tracks. Not the rope holding the gates up. Pretty poor shape:

Finally got out and got a pic of the painted up RACOs.

And also got the change to the crossing. The gate originally was partially re-striped with vertical lines but now its changed to this:

This is in San Rafael CA. This is former NWP, and this stretch is completely isolated. Nice old signals though:

Re: Tracks out of service
Paloma Ave is from where my Magnetic Flagman wig-wag signal originated. I no longer see its mast on the right (south side) of the street.

Pretty neat private crossing!PaulSP wrote:I followed the line pretty far and i found this weird one.gedunk wrote:This is in San Rafael CA. This is former NWP, and this stretch is completely isolated. Nice old signals though

I'm pretty sure this ROW is being held back for future commuter rail.
Re: Tracks out of service
I have learned that the northernmost end of the WSOR Mayville branch has recently gone out of service. At this crossing the rails have reportedly been paved over, the lights bagged, and the cantilever arms turned sideways to be no longer over the road.
That would also affect these crossings:

http://www.rxrsignals.net/Wisconsin/L-P ... ckenridge/
http://www.rxrsignals.net/Wisconsin/L-P ... /Kekoskee/
Hopefully sometime in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get up there and get some shots. I haven't heard anything about an abandonment filing for that part of the line just yet, but there are apparently no longer any customers from Highway 28 (Horicon St.) northward.

Re: Tracks out of service
Interesting how the (o)T(o) are facing upwards because of the hill.
Appears they are aimed too high.
The east-facing cantilever, which has tilted somewhat, looks as though it may not clear a semil trailer.

If you do get up there, maybe you could take a slight detour and get some pictures of this crossing.AndyWS wrote:I have learned that the northernmost end of the WSOR Mayville branch has recently gone out of service. Re: Tracks out of service
Done, although it has changed a little bit since the Street View pictures were taken. The lights are all 12" x 24" Harmon frames with (presumably) fading L.E.D.s, and the bell is a General Signals electronic. The cantilevers are actually Safetran, and the old 8" lights probably were too.mlgillson wrote:[If you do get up there, maybe you could take a slight detour and get some pictures of this crossing.
It looks pretty grim in Mayville. The rails are indeed removed from the Horicon St. crossing and the grade paved over, and the track is red-boarded off immediately south of the crossing. The mast lights are wrapped in black garbage bags, and the cantilever arms are indeed turned so that they extend away from the tracks, parallel to the road.
The four other crossings on the mile or so of now isolated track left in place north of there have had no obvious changes made to them. The track on that line has always looked pretty rickety and weedy in patches, but you couldn't really be sure that it's out of service without looking at the Horicon St. crossing.
Pictures will be processed sometime in the coming week, not likely tomorrow since I have a school-related project to get done for Monday.

Re: Tracks out of service
If you use the satellite view, your can follow the ROW back to Columbus and spot several defunct crossings. I have zero idea what RR this is or was.
