Just another update, the other Westinghouse gate mech on Bear street has now been replaced with a WCH gate mech and also surprisingly, both of the Westinghouse gate mechs on McDonald street (on the northern side of Mordialloc station) were also replaced. I think Metro May have begun a mass replacement of the Westinghouse mechs now...

They've decided that replacing hybrid bells isn't enough and they've now moved onto replaced Westinghouse gate mechs.

Where's that performance clause in their contact when you need it?

LOL, I actually saw that on the Supercars site about a week ago.

I can understand replacing older equipment if it fails and they're unable to fix it, but when they do it for the sake of "progress", that's when I start to get annoyed...

Probably for standardization purposes. Not exactly a good thing for railroads to have to stock parts for 4+ different gate mechs, especially when several of those gate mechs aren't made anymore.

It’s shame Metro has turned their attention to replacing the Westinghouse gate mechs... I wonder if they’ll start replacing WRRS/Mckenzie & Holland gate mechs?

Sadly I think most of them have already been replaced... Only 2 crossings on the Frankston line have them (Eel Race Road, Seaford, and Latrobe Ave in Cheltenham). The rest were replaced by Siemens mechs years ago. The Sandringham line used to have tons of them last year but they’ve all been replaced by either WCH mechs or Siemens ones as well. Even crossings on the Craigieburne line that had them weren’t spared...

New/Dendy Street in Brighton has been replaced I accidentally confused the South Morang (Mernda as of Sunday) Line with the Craigieburn line. The South Morang Line has both crossings surrounding Preston station replaced with Siemens mechs.

I’m pretty sure Bell Street still has an old gate mech (along with a 1980’s Westinghouse mech), but the crossing is up for removal. I already knew that Cramer Street and Muarry Road have Siemens gate mechs now, which is a shame...

Sucks to hear that Dendy Street has been struck by the gate mech nazis, the crossing had already been ruined by the bell nazis five years earlier and now a typical modernised 1960’s suburban setup with the original McK&H lights, but with the m-bells replaced with e-bells and the WRRS/McK&H mechs replaced with Siemens or WCH ones’.

Metro have to go, I’m getting sick of their crossing equipment replacement policy.
