Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I believe UP owns that portion of the crossing, so I wonder why they even bothered to upgrade the signals in the first place?ZachL wrote:Griswold EM signals! Nice!ToledoRailfan wrote:There use to be some classic equipment here!

The Fremont & Elkhorn Valley railroad operates on the active part of the in Hopper north of where the junction use to be if I'm not mistaking.ZachL wrote:It's a dead line, too. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Looks like the BNSF crossing has been upgraded to have a pair of gated signals as well. Maybe UP will soon be tearing out their crossing?ZachL wrote:It's a dead line, too. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
There's no way that line gets use at that crossing there though, as this one to the north was in similar shape when street view came through:ToledoRailfan wrote:The Fremont & Elkhorn Valley railroad operates on the active part of the in Hopper north of where the junction use to be if I'm not mistaking.ZachL wrote:It's a dead line, too. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I was referring to the part in downtown Hopper, obviously it wouldn't be a long ride but that was just the assumption that I made.freebrickproductions wrote:There's no way that line gets use at that crossing there though, as this one to the north was in similar shape when street view came through:ToledoRailfan wrote:The Fremont & Elkhorn Valley railroad operates on the active part of the in Hopper north of where the junction use to be if I'm not mistaking.ZachL wrote:It's a dead line, too. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Even looking through that area where the Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad has operations, it still looks like the line either sees little-to-no usage at all, or has fallen under. The tracks are essentially overrun with grass if you look at Street View.
