Nice find! Must have been done by a fan of SCL

Looks to have been done recently, though i can't rule out that the bell was replaced! No other street view capture shows a black bell.

It was probably painted black to match the repaint job on the previously-faded black WCH mechanical bell here:

Yeah, they have to be gone. Plus, usually that happens when a crossing is upgraded from passive and just freshly activated as well.

Yeah, they have to be gone. Plus, usually that happens when a crossing is upgraded from passive and just freshly activated as well.

Interestingly enough, I think those signals were already a few years old by the time street view came through, based on the equipment.
